Children’s festival

World Village Festival is a admission free festival for the whole family. Programmes for children will be held in indoor venues at Kids’ Corner LillaLuckan from 11-17 during the festival weekend. Programmes suitable for children can also be found at exhibitor stands, Mobile Library, Kamppi Chapel, YMCA Peace & Sports area and of course, Music Stage in Lasipalatsi Square.

Over the years, various workshops in children’s programme have become favourites among many families with children. Activities in the area have included building their own compost, renovating a dollhouse, and learning to dance and play music in the styles of many different cultures. In addition to Kids’ programme, the festival’s main stage hosts one major concert for children each year.

This year children’s programme will be held at LillaLuckan, the premises of the Finnish-Swedish Information and Cultural Centre, Luckan. The lineup includes dance workshops, crafts, theater, and a stand-up comedy show. The programme descriptions also indicate the recommended ages for each event, so it’s a good idea to check the programme in advance. The programme will be published on April 23.

Crafts and art

In another room at LillaLuckan, a craft workshop Corner of Kids FreedomArt: Create as You Feel! will be held on both festival days.

The workshop is an interactive, creative space for children, where the floor becomes a giant canvas and every child becomes an artist. In the art corner, children can create freely, participate to a collective art, and express freedom through colors, shapes, and face painting.

The workshop is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 16:30.

Entrances to LillaLuckan

Kid’s Corner LillaLuckan is located on the second floor of Luckan. You can access the space by taking the stairs located to the left after passing through Luckan’s main entrance.

The accessible entrance with no steps is located around the corner. Walk a short distance to the right from the main doors (away from the Festival site) and turn left at the gateway towards Kukontori. The accessible entrance is on the left after the gateway. Near the accessible entrance, there is a small elevator that takes you to the Kids’ Corner LillaLuckan on the second floor and to the restrooms on the ground floor.

Indoor venues

The children’s programme performances and workshops take place in the second room of the Kids’ Corner LillaLuckan. The other room is reserved for relaxed lounging. Outdoor shoes are left in the second-floor foyer. If you do not want to leave them there, please bring your own shoe bag.

The spaces are quite small and can accommodate about 50 people. We recommend that one adult accompany each child so that as many children as possible can fit in the space. Children cannot be left in the space without an accompanying adult.

Strollers and pushchairs

You cannot bring strollers or baby carriages into Luckan’s indoor venues because the areas are very cramped. Strollers must be left, for example, locked up at Kukontori. There is no stroller parking at the festival site, so leaving strollers outside is at your own risk.

Restrooms and childcare station

Luckan has four smaller women’s and men’s restrooms in the basement. A larger accessible restroom is located both in the basement and on the second floor, adjacent to LillaLuckan. The accessible restrooms can be reached by elevator. The restroom at LillaLuckan also has a childcare station.

Festival site, information desk, and lost children

At the festival’s information desk in the Bio Rex lobby, you can pick up stickers to attach to children’s clothing, on which you can write your contact information. Stickers are also available from staff in the Kids’ Corner LillaLuckan. Lost children will be taken to the information desk, where volunteers will wait with the children for their parents.

Music, especially on Music Stage can be loud, so if you’re bringing very young children, it’s a good idea to bring ear protection. Earplugs are also available at the festival’s information desks if needed.

The World Village Festival site is located in the Lasipalatsi District and at Narinkka Square in downtown Helsinki. The venue is easily accessible by metro, bus, and tram, as well as by bike and on foot. Take a closer look at the festival map.
