The lively music of Vodou Fusion is based on West African voodoo rhythms, combining traditional Afrobeat, funk, reggae, and Afropop. The band represents the most culturally diverse side of Finnish rhythm music, with members from Finland, Benin, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cuba and Mozambique.
Benin-born Gildas Houessou addresses various aspects of life such as respect, peace, and love. The lyrics are in French, English, and Mina, one of the languages spoken in Benin.
The band, which has performed at Pori Jazz and the Mitäs Mitäs Mitäs festival, will get the festival audience dancing with their energetic stage presence. Their music can currently only be enjoyed live, but their debut album is scheduled for release this year.
The band has already achieved success, as they were nominated in the Band of the Year category at the 2025 Funky Awards.
We are extremely happy and look forward to performing at World Village Festival. The event always raises important topics, such as peace and sustainable future, that we also feel deeply about. It is from those deep emotions that gives inspiration to our music and from where our energy comes from. And of course, love and living, sharing this amazing life together. – Gildas Houessou
