Esengo is a new Afrocentric clothing online store founded in 2023 that produces ethically produced women’s and children’s clothing and accessories in Africa.

The online store was founded by Kirsi, a woman entrepreneur from Helsinki. All the clothes are designed in Finland. The clothes are made in Ghana and Congo in a small-scale women’s sewing workshop. Our warehouse is located in Helsinki. We sell entirely online and at various events.

Our brand name ESENGO means joy in Lingala. With the help of our clothes, we want to bring joy to both the manufacturers of our clothes and their users.

My own roots are from Congo, which serves as Esengo’s great inspiration. Nordic design and beautiful African prints and color combinations are emphasized in Esengo’s clothes. Esengo’s mission is to bring more bold prints and color combinations to the Finnish fashion scene.

All our products are made in West Ghana and Congo in cooperation with a female-led small weaving mill in Accra. Some of the small items such as accessories are made in Finland.

Our tailor tailoring shop in Ghana is owned by a young female seamstress, Esi, with whom we have worked closely throughout the manufacturing process. The sewing shop has a total of 7 permanent seamstresses, four women and three men.

10% of each of our orders goes to Congolese refugee aid activities.

All our products are made from 100% cotton African traditional Ankara fabric. We have procured the fabrics from Ghana and Congo from female private entrepreneurs.

With our clothes, we want to bring self-confidence and joy, both to the wearers of our clothes and to their manufacturers.
