The first ever Palestinian hip-hop group, DAM, has become known for its fiercely opinionated lyrics. Their songs deal with important issues ranging from war-related conflicts to women’s rights and the pressures of getting married. The band is made up of brothers Tamer and Suhell Nafarit, Mahmoud Jreri and Maysa Daw.

The inspiration to form DAM came from the need for a voice and a means to express the discontent and disappointment that Palestinian youth felt in the face of discrimination and oppression. The group experienced a lot of censorship in its early days and had limited access to recording studios.

DAM has had a huge impact on the development of the hip hop scene in Palestine. Their music is an effective blend of traditional Middle Eastern rhythms and booming rap.

DAM has been seen on many stages and has performed at the international Womad festival in 2024 among others.
