The mission of Finnish Somali League – founded in 1996 – is to act as a capable umbrella organization of Somali associations based in Finland.
The key action areas are:
– Advocacy
– Advisory services
– Promoting integration
– Supporting employment
– Reduction of prejudice
As an umbrella organization the League has unique and invaluable insight to the lives of Somali minority in Finland. The League represents them in a variety of national and international bodies and networks. The League is also actively engaged in advocacy and consultancy in collaboration with Finnish authorities.
The League currently implements two projects:
Safe Choices with Community Support (2024-2026)
The goal is to protect young people from the harms of substance abuse and to increase the awareness of parents and mosque teachers about substance abuse and ways to deal with the subject with young people.
Similar opportunities for young people (2024-2026) The project aims to prevent Finnish Somali youth between the ages of 13 and 29 from joining gangs and to promote their social inclusion.
