World Village Festival has awarded Rannagor, a restaurant serving Bengali food, the 2024 Food Vendor of the Year title. The anniversary-year festival in 2025 will be themed on Peace. Some exhibitor and programme production schedules have been published.
Rannagor has been awarded the World Village Festival 2024 Food Vendor of the Year title. Festivalgoers appreciated the tasty and flavourful Bengali food served by Rannagor. The festival production team awarded points not only for excellent food but also for the functionality and tidiness of the vendor space, compliance with guidelines, and a friendly and active attitude. Located in Pasila, Helsinki, the Rannagor restaurant receives a free food vendor space for the 2025 festival as a prize.
– Rannagor is a new, refreshing addition to World Village Festival food vendors, sums up Production Manager Laura Valoma, who is responsible for exhibitors.
– We’re really flattered. World Village Festival was the first festival for us and a nice experience. For us, the most important thing is the quality of our food, and we prepare everything from scratch using fresh ingredients. We’d never served vegetarian-only food before, so that’s something we had to think about a bit, but our chickpea dish, for example, received compliments, say Rannagor owners Mohasin Alam and Ashifur Rahman Miah.
Organised in late May, World Village Festival featured 46 food vendors selling vegetarian food from around the world. Festivalgoers’ opinions were gathered using the visitor survey, but the winner was mainly selected based on the festival production team’s experiences. The competition aimed to encourage vendors for compliance with guidelines and good cooperation to facilitate aspects such as interaction with the authorities and preparedness for challenging weather conditions. The team also appreciated a positive attitude, filling portion sizes and high-quality food.
– Food is one of our most important attractions, and we want everything to work flawlessly regarding food preparation and sales, too, says Valoma.
Anniversary year 2025 themed on Peace
2025 is an anniversary year for World Village Festival, as it will be 30 years since the first-ever festival and the 25th time for the festival to take place. The theme selected for the anniversary year is Peace.
Peace in the world is disturbed in ever-increasing ways, with societal stability and people’s sense of security being threatened. Peace is not just an absence of war and conflict – it is also needed to solve societal tensions and ecological crises.
Equally, many of us long for peace in our everyday lives, work, home and the environment: peaceful life and interaction, peace of mind, peace to be ourselves. World Village Festival invites communities and individuals to build peace in its many dimensions.
