Deaconess Foundation

Roma activist Julian Kondur joins the festival remotely from Kyiv, where he runs the Roma Women Fund Chiricli’s Ukraine-wide emergency assistance and human rights work. Kondur’s speech reveals the courage with which the Roma minority has risen since the start of the full-blown war of aggression to fight not only on the front lines, but also to help other people in distress in addition to Roma. At the same time Kondur’s organisation has worked against the prejudices associated with Roma in Ukraine. Kondur will be interviewed by Anca Enache from Deaconess Foundation.

How did the marginalised Roma community find the strength to stand up in support of other people in vulnerable positions? How does the courageous work of Roma and their organisations challenge the prejudices concerning Roma that are deeply rooted in Ukrainian society?

The programme will be in English. The programme will be available on-site at the Speaker’s stage and through live stream on the Festival website.
