Ana Tijoux (CL-FR)
A self-confessed feminist and activist, french-chilean Ana Tijoux is a prolific musician whose fifth studio album “Vida” was released last year. Topical issues such as war and equality are addressed fearlessly in Tijoux’s blend of funky hip-hop, reggaeton and fresh Afrobeat.
While the subject matter of the songs is sometimes very serious, Tijoux’s music does not indulge in unnecessary gloom or depressing melancholy. Many of the songs invite the listeners to the dance floor. Still, the social significance of the songs can be seen, for example, in their use as power songs in demonstrations by Chilean protest movements.
Tijoux has been making music since the late 90s. She started her solo career in 2006. Since then, she has already been awarded the Latin Grammy Award and has received several Grammy nominations. The artist, living in France, has performed in Sweden and Norway, but World Village Festival brings her to Finland for the first time. This will be a unique opportunity to hear Ana Tijoux’s music live.
