Grande Mahogany

Having garnered awards and attention over the past couple of years, Grande Mahogany skillfully combines funk, rock, r’n’b and Afro-psychedelia in his music. 

His song Super Rocker was the most played song on Radio Helsinki in 2024, and he is nominated for the 2025 Emma Gala as the winner of the Critics’ Choice and the Audience Choice. He has also won two Funky Amigos Funk Awards in 2024: Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year.

Mahogany has attracted international attention as well: his music has been played on BBC radio stations. He is currently working actively on new music in a studio in London.

Mahogany’s real name is Jesse Essel. He describes Grande Mahogany as an alter ego whose songs are born out of a genuine connection to music that knows no boundaries. Mahogany is of Ghanaian roots, born in Turku, raised partly in Manchester, England, and currently living in Helsinki.

In addition to his music, Grande Mahogany is also known for his original, 70s-inspired dress style, which is guaranteed to be an eye-catching element on stage.

In this global situation, it is important to have music festivals that highlight difficult themes, to make people more interested in the problems of the near future and understand the immediacy of them.
